Mark Your Calendars! 

January 7 & 14: Pick up local kiwis at the Virginia Beach Farmers Market between 10 - 2pm. For info see details under 'local Kiwis' below.

January 13: 
Order fresh sausage from Oliver Farms Produce,Smithfield by this date and it will be ready for pickup January 22. Order fresh collards too.

20 - 22: 
The Virginia Flower & Garden Expo at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. BFBLHR will have a Display at the Expo. Stop by to see us and pick up a copy of our new Fall/Winter/CSA Guide.

January 28: On-Farm Pickup Day at Full Quiver Farm, Chesapeake. 10 - 2pm. Pork and chicken from the freezer or pre-order.

Local Kiwis Are In 

Call Carol Watkins of Watkins Kiwi Farm at 650-3456 and place kiwi skicesan order for kiwi fruits that are grown on Knotts Island. Leave your name, how many kiwis you want and your phone number. Kiwis are 25 cents apiece.

    You can pick them up from her on either Saturday Jan. 7th or Jan. 14th, 10 - 2pm, at theVirginia Beach Farmers Market, Dam Neck Road. If she hasn't sold out, she may deliver to the Farmers Market once more on Jan. 22.

 

Own a Little Piece of a Cow

Buy a share of a cow from Holly Grove Farm and get raw milk weekly either from the farm or delivered for a fee to a location near you.

 

Greens, Ginger, Sweet Potatoes and More

Virginia Garden Organic Grocery at the Virginia Beach Farmers Market has local collards, apples, chard, garlic, ginger, kale, lettuce, green onions, sweet potatoes, turnips and honey as well as prepared foods made with locally grown products.

 

CSA Enrollment Time!

Cullipher Farm, Virginia Beach is taking enrollments for their 2012Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. To sign-up or learn more about the different programs they offer, including a new Fruit Share for fruit lovers, visit  www.cullipherfarm.com. 

 

Mattawoman Creek Farms on the Eastern Shore also has opened their CSA enrollments for 2012. Mattawoman is expanding its certified organic acreage from 11 to 44 acres in 2012 and will be growing several new crops. Visit their website for more details. 

 

Popcorn for Cold Winter Nights and for the Super Bowl!

Brookdale Farm has home grown popcorn available in half or full cases of one-pint jars. They also have squirrel and critter corn in 50-pound bags. Email  or call 757-721-0558 to place an order and make arrangements to pick up your corn at the farmhouse, 2060 Vaughan Road in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach.
